Get Involved (419) 782-2172
Besides
working on the house itself, Habitat for Humanity of
Defiance County has various committees which you can
become involved with.
Site
Selection
When we
are in need of a lot to build on, we utilize our
Site Selection committee. This committee looks for
affordable lots within Defiance County to purchase.
Sometimes lots are donated for HFH to build on.
Church Relations/Fund Development
This
committee works with the area churches and community
to raise awareness and funding for the lots and
homes. HFHDC is willing to come and give a
presentation to any size group. If you are
interested, please contact us.
Family Selection
We are
always taking applications for partner families.
When we receive an application, the Family Selection
committee reviews the applications and makes visits
to the families home making sure all the criteria is
met so the family can partner with HFH for a no
interest loan.
Family Support
Once a
family is selected, the Family Support committee
works with the partner families before, during and
after the building of their new home. We assign an
advocate to work with the family before the house is
started. The advocate works with the family while
they are taking courses on finances and budgeting,
and picking out house plans. That advocate actually
works on the house construction with the family and
friends of the family. The partner family is
required to put in so much “sweat equity” into their
home and the advocate monitors the hours. When the
house is built and the family moves in, the advocate
visits and lends support in any way during the first
year of home ownership. The advocate helps the
family get acclimated to owning and taking care of
their home.
Construction
This
committee is responsible for the actual building of
the home. This committee works with the family
before, during and after the home is built. Plans
need to be selected, workers and materials
coordinated, and progress maintained. After the home
is built, education on home ownership and
maintenance is done.
Volunteer
Even
though the construction committee sees to it that
the house is built, the Volunteer committee actually
contacts the area churches, organizations,
businesses and people to coordinate workers and
lunches. Our volunteers, in whatever capacity, are
the heart of HFHDC.
Whether
sitting on the board, serving on a committee,
working with a hammer, or preparing a meal, there is
something that you could do to help. We appreciate
every one of our volunteers, and if you are
